Silverdale School Cyber Safety Hub

We are delighted to introduce you to this resource made available to you through our partnership with Family Zone – our school Cyber Safety Hub.

The purpose of the Cyber Safety Hub is to provide you with practical guidance and information to further support you in engaging with your children in their digital development. These tools and resources also allow the school and parent body to work together on creating a holistic approach to guiding each student’s online journey.

You can access the Cyber Safety Hub using the link below:

https://silverdaleprimary.cybersafetyhub.nz/

or from our website

https://www.silverdaleprimary.school.nz/parent-cyber-safety-hub/

About the Parent Cyber Safety Hub

The Cyber Safety Hub provides expert advice from leading cyber experts, ySafe, on the most pertinent issues and frequently asked questions around platforms like TikTok, Fortnite, Instagram, and more. There are app reviews with age and safety recommendations, along with a range of guides to help ensure healthy boundaries around screen-time and gaming, plus step-by-step instructions for using parental controls and filtering out inappropriate content.

We are very excited to be able to offer you this level of expertise and support in an area that we know has been challenging for many parents to manage. We look forward to working closely with you as we develop the cyber safety conversation within our school community.

School Donation

Our school donation is $200 per child or $50 a term. This money is used to pay for a large number of additional curriculum resources, subsidise a number of school wide activities such as swimming, art, dance and drama resources, sporting functions, developmental material and related photocopying and other essential resources.

Each term the Silverdale Board puts all the names of those donations that have been made into a draw to give one child the chance to have their fees paid for the following term. The families that have received these in the past have been very grateful. We understand that a donation is voluntary and that it can be at times very difficult to manage. Mrs Reid in the office, is very happy to discuss possible arrangements for meeting this cost for your child. Each small contribution adds up across the course of time and helps to enhance the substance of this school.

Sit Less, Move More, Sleep Well Physical Activity Guidelines for Children and Young People

For school-aged children and young people (aged 5 to 17 years) high levels of physical activity, low levels of sedentary behaviour and sufficient sleep each day achieves greater health benefits.

A healthy 24 hours includes:

  • quality uninterrupted sleep of 9 to 11 hours per night for those aged 5 to 13 years and 8 to 10 hours per night for those aged 14 to 17 years, with consistent bed and wake-up times.
  • an accumulation of at least one hour a day of moderate to vigorous physical activity (incorporate vigorous physical activities and activities that strengthen muscles and bones, at least three days a week).
  • no more than two hours per day of recreational screen time.
  • for the remainder of the day:
  • sitting less, moving more – break up sitting time.
  • participating in structured and unstructured light physical activities.

Preserving sleep, trading indoor time for outdoor time, and replacing sedentary behaviours and light physical activity with additional moderate to vigorous physical activity can provide greater health benefits.

P.E.A.K.S (Participation, Effort, Action, Knowledge, Skills)

P.E.A.K.S (Participation, Effort, Action, Knowledge, Skills) is our home learning programme where we celebrate the effort and commitment of students who take on a challenge and complete it in their own time.  It enables us the chance to recognise the depth and wealth of learning opportunities students engage in in their leisure time.

Each team offers slightly different challenges they can engage in and there is also the opportunity to design their own challenge.

Each year level has a set number of challenges to achieve in the year. Those that complete these will be awarded a trophy at the end of the year in recognition of their efforts.

PTA Easter Fundraiser
The wonderful owners of Cob-Vienna (located 11/177 Millwater Parkway) have kindly offered to help our fundraising goals.
We have two flavours (traditional or chocolate chip) to choose from or grab them both!
Order your scrumptious hot cross buns via Kindo, you will not be disappointed.

Canopy

Great news the work on the canopy started this week. The children are very excited watching the workers drilling the holes.

A friendly reminder to please pay your donation. Donations paid now can be claimed after 1 April for a 33% tax rebate.
When paying through myKindo, you will also see an invitation to “amplify your donation”. If you don’t normally claim your rebates, we would appreciate you choosing YES to support our school. Thank you.

Claiming back your Donation rebate for yourself
You can claim back 33.33c for every dollar you spend on donations (where donations are greater than $5). Here’s how to find our school donation receipts for this years’ tax rebate claim:

  1. Log in to myKindo.co.nz and go to My Orders.
  2. Choose record type ‘Donation Receipts’.
  3. Set the date range
  4. Select Download Summary for IRD tax return to get a PDF document suitable for attaching to your tax return (containing all school donation amounts paid in the year). Individual donation receipts can also be downloaded as required, or several can be selected and downloaded into a zip file.

Information is available on support.mykindo.co.nz

Using a tax agent to gift your rebate
If you have registered for TaxGift or Supergenerous, make sure this setting is correct on myKindo. Go to My Details and select edit rebate tax agent. You can specify a new Tax Agent for current and old schools, and nominate whether they should also collect the past 4 years receipts. All donation receipts will be directed from Kindo to the selected Tax Agent and rebates will be gifted to the school – there’s nothing further for you to do.

NOTE: Kindo cannot change the details on your donation receipt, so please ensure your Account Holder name is correct BEFORE paying any donations. Donation receipts will only be issued for items that the school has nominated as ‘donation receipt required.
