Drop off and Pick up procedures for Team Te Ōhanga

A friendly reminder that children and parents are not to be on school site before the 8.30am bell.

In the afternoon parents are welcome onsite from 2.50pm and are asked to wait away from classrooms to avoid disruption to teaching. Please do not wait outside your child’s classroom.

At the end of the day all Year 0/1 classes move to the middle court for teachers to organise into gate lines. Children are then walked to each gate by the teacher in charge.

Parent and sibling pick-up.

These children are to remain seated in the centre of the courts, where teachers supervise them until 3.00pm.

For the safety of all children, please do not collect your child before the 3.00pm bell. Teachers will release children to their parents once the 3.00pm bell goes. There is a lot happening at the end of the day and we don’t want any children wandering off.

If your children are playing on the playground after-school, they must be supervised by an adult and on the junior playground.

Learning Conservations – Wednesday 7 June and Thursday 8 June

The learning conversations are three-way conferences with the teacher, child and parent. Three-way conferences take the form of a conversation between the child, the parents and the teacher as they sit together and talk about the child’s learning, with the child taking an equal role. This approach give children an opportunity to share with their parents their growth as a learner. The three-way conferences are designed to achieve one or more of the following goals:

  • to help children demonstrate evidence of learning,
  • to teach children the process of reflection and self-evaluation,
  • to facilitate the development of child’s organisational and oral communication skills and to increase their self-confidence,
  • to encourage children, parents, and teachers to engage in open and honest dialogue,
  • to encourage children to accept personal responsibility for their learning.

Times for Learning Conversations are:

Wednesday 7 June 12:30pm – 6:00pm and Thursday 8 June 3:15pm – 6:00pm

On Wednesday 7 June the school will close at 12.00pm, can you please collect your child at this time this is only for Wednesday 7 June.

Each learning conversation session lasts for 15 minutes.

Silverdale Student Enviro Group

The Enviro Group have been working with the Whitebait Connection this term and last term and the action plan the students have came up with is to plant out areas by the stream to improve the health of the stream.

They started planting on Tuesday with some cabbage trees and will continue with more of these as well as grasses. Please can you let people in our community know so that they leave them to grow.

They are leaving the area in front of the kauri tree where the stream bends around free for classes to use.

Green Man Walking – Road Safety

Last week, our Travelwise Leaders took to the large crossing at Millwater Parkway/Bankside Rd/Longmore Lane. The Travelwise Leaders aim was to bring awareness to drivers to stop when the light is red and to watch out for students crossing. We’d like to thank drivers for taking extra care around this very busy crossing.

Walking School Bus

What is a Walking School Bus?

It is a group of children who walk together to/from school with parent supervisors along a set route.

Why should I join a Walking School Bus?

There are so many benefits of a walking school bus! Parents get to connect with one another, children get to have fun and get active. There is less congestion at school gates with more people walking which helps to improve the safety of the roads around schools.
