Teachers and Principals Strike – Thursday 16 March – School Closed

Our teachers who belong to the NZEI will be striking on Thursday 16 March. This will mean that the school will be closed to children on Thursday 16 March.

Kelly Club Silverdale will be offering a supervision programme on Thursday 16 March. If you would like to send your child/ren to Kelly Club you can book them in by following this link

Why are teachers and principals striking?

Our tamariki need a quality education. And we want to give that to them.

Unfortunately, the funding for our schools is not enough for us to give us the time we would like to support all our children to thrive.

We need to attract and retain educators by ensuring that teaching is a valued and attractive profession.

Principals and teachers in primary and area schools have considered at length offers from the government to settle our respective collective agreements.

The offers did not meet our expectations, nor make sufficient steps towards the changes we need for our children to succeed.

We have voted to take industrial action on Thursday 16 March.

It’s the last thing we wanted to do. And the decision was not taken lightly.

We felt that this was the only way the government would listen and recognise that when they support our children to learn and succeed, we are supporting whānau and communities to thrive.

We look forward to another great year in 2023 – and together with your support, building the case for better investment in our tamariki.

Thank you for your support in this.

Welcome to Abby Griffith, Gabriel Teo, Diana Ramazan and Maddie Shas. Our current roll is 750.

Working Bee – Garden to Table – Thank you

Thank you to all the families that came along to our working bee on Saturday. What an amazing day we had and the gardens look incredible. We are so grateful for the help and support you gave. This is a massive step forward to getting our gardens back to a usable area. The expectations have exceeded what we were hoping to achieve and this couldn’t have happened without you and your hard work. What you achieved in one day would have taken us months to do and we sincerely appreciate you all. You are awesome!

The children came to school on Monday and were so excited to see the beautiful plants and area that has been hidden under all the overgrown weeds.

If you have any photos you took on the day, please feel free to share them with us.  They can be sent to

Crossing Millwater Parkway

Over the past few weeks it has been reported to me that children and families are crossing Millwater Parkway by the dental clinic at the end of the school day. During this time Millwater Parkway is extremely busy and it’s very dangerous to cross there. Please cross Millwater Parkway at the lights at the corner of Bankside and Millwater.

The Resilience Project – Te Whakatakanga Manawanui

Silverdale School is now in its third year of implementing The Resilience Project (Te Whakatakanga Manawanui) wellbeing curriculum into our classrooms.

The Resilience Project is a schoolwide programme from Year 0 to 6 that provides practical, evidence-based, positive mental health strategies to build resilience and happiness. The programme focuses on three key pillars that have been proven to cultivate positive emotion; Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM). The programme also has a strong focus on Connection, Purpose, Kindness, Emotional Literacy and Physical Health.

Now, more than ever, there is a high need for a focus on mental well being. As well as supporting your child at school, The Resilience Project is also available to support you and your child at home through digital parent and career presentations and access to TRP@ Home.

Parent/carer presentations – 5 x videos and program information (no login for parents). Click this link to access the parent modules.  Parent and Career Hub

TRP @ Home helps to connect the GEM principles with our families.

  • TRP@Home provides families with resources, ideas and activities to practice GEM whilst at home.
  • TRP@Home also includes a blog with articles relating to GEM and its practice.
  • Take home activities on TRP@Home linked to the classroom lessons.

2023 Silverdale School – Colour Rush – Online Sponsored Fundraiser

Like all New Zealand Schools, Silverdale School relies on fundraising revenue to further enhance learning opportunities and the overall school environment for all our students. Fundraising gives our students a sense of empowerment from being able to work as a team and contribute towards a common goal. This term we are running our annual Colour Rush Online Fundraiser.

Our Colour Rush is a great way to bring our community together and show school spirit while raising much needed funds for our school. This year, funds raised will go towards the refurbishment of our library, a project that will benefit all our current and future students.

Our students will be collecting online sponsorship for their efforts on colour rush day, all funds raised will go towards our Library project.

How will this fundraiser work? Once again we have partnered with online fundraising company Go Raise It. Collecting sponsorship online makes it super easy for everyone – no more door knocking, your child can collect more donations from further afield (friends & family living overseas, work colleagues etc) and no need to worry about handling cash!

How do I sign my child up to fundraise online? Each child can sign up for their very own fundraising web page to send out to collect online sponsorship from anyone, anywhere!

Multiple children in your family? No problem, all children can sit under the same email address. You’ll find a button to set up another page while logged in to the fundraising account you created first.

Do I have to sign up for an online account to fundraise? We would love everyone to have an online account as this allows the school to significantly reduce the administration overhead of collecting and dealing with cash. Go Raise It adhere to strict cyber safe guidelines and this is built into our fundraising website. If you really do not want an online fundraising page, and still want to participate please check with the school office to see if you can collect cash.

We have a great range of fundraising prizes available including spot prizes and overall fundraising prizes for classes, teams and individuals. Please see the prizes page linked on the Fundraising Hub page of our fundraising website.

Walking School Bus

What is a Walking School Bus?

It is a group of children who walk together to/from school with parent supervisors along a set route.

Why should I join a Walking School Bus?

There are so many benefits of a walking school bus! Parents get to connect with one another, children get to have fun and get active. There is less congestion at school gates with more people walking which helps to improve the safety of the roads around schools.
