Teacher/Staff Only Day – Thursday 6 April

On Thursday 6 April the school will be closed for children for a teacher/staff only day. During this day staff will undertake professional development.

Smart Watches

We are finding that children with smart watches at school are becoming distracted by then during their learning time. If your child has a smart watch, once they are at school these watches will need to be given to their teacher and the watch will be stored in the teachers offices for the day and then returned back to the child at the end of the day. If you need to contact your child during the school day please call the office. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Pokemon Cards

Pokemon cards are not allowed at school please make sure that your child doesn’t bring these to school, thank you.

Birthday Cakes

Due to a large amount of children with food allergies we can’t allow children to bring in birthday treats for their class. Please don’t send in food to share with the class for your child’s birthday. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Garden To Table Programme – Working Bee

Silverdale School is very lucky to have the Garden To Table programme in school which is available to Year 3 and 4 children. The aim of this programme is to give the students the opportunity to use the fresh seasonal produce they have grown, harvested and then cooked to enjoy a delicious meal they have produced themselves at the end of each session.

Children love the programme because it is authentic learning. They enjoy helping out in the garden and working alongside their peers in small groups with volunteers and garden and kitchen specialists. This is hands-on learning and a fun way to absorb the information. It also helps them to interact and work collaboratively with others, promoting teamwork.

Over the Christmas period due to all the rain we have seen huge growth in the gardens at school which have now become very overgrown. The students and our Garden Specialist have been chipping away at trying to clear this over the last couple of weeks, however to get it back to being how it was we need some extra hands.

We need your help, so we have decided to organise a working bee and would love your to dust off your gumboots and garden gloves and come join us.

Walking School Bus

What is a Walking School Bus?

It is a group of children who walk together to/from school with parent supervisors along a set route.

Why should I join a Walking School Bus?

There are so many benefits of a walking school bus! Parents get to connect with one another, children get to have fun and get active. There is less congestion at school gates with more people walking which helps to improve the safety of the roads around schools.
