Happy Holidays

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. Term 1 has seen plenty of challenges for us. I’m proud of the incredible resilience our children, staff and community has shown this term. I hope you’re able to take some time for rest and relaxation this holiday break. It’s important to recalibrate, reconnect, and create a positive mindset for term 2. Enjoy your time with family, friends and have copious amounts of fun. Term 2 starts Monday 3 May.

Powhiri

We will be having a powhiri to welcome our new children to our school on Monday 3 May at 11.30am in the school hall. All children who started with us during term 1 and all new children starting on Monday 3 May will have a powhiri. All parents/caregivers are invited to attend the powhiri.

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to Aria Harrewijn, Rolan Feng, Leo Green, Ewan Delport, Ulyana Ushakova, Maxwell Light, Brody Currie, Felix Love, Aurora Peat, Charlie Smith, Oscar Stevens, Cameron Kitching, Declan Bryce, Mieke Goosen, Tilly Satchell, Daniel Zeng, William Hay, Connar Gloy, Sonny Matafeo, Xander Love, Miana Hoskins, Poppy Ross, Archie Fletcher, Albert Zhao, Lola Storey, Lyla Taylor, Raymond Lei, Ricky Fu, Kylestonael Iskandar, Paige Gardner, Matthew Hurter, Charlize Neilson, Ruby Browne, Elimyss Caingod, Maisie Browne, Jose Ahumada, Andrew Baek, Olivia Cechova, Lau Senekal, Harry Boreham, Jeremy Yin, Joe Storey, Arton Fenelus, Olivia Bowater, Ellie Tuohy, Sagi Khusid, Annabel Behenna, Bella Pan and Maia Pretsell.

Car Parking

The school received a call from a very distressed member of the public on Monday stating that their 3 year old child was nearly hit by one of our parents in their car. The car was driving on the council land opposite the school after picking up their child from school. If you need to drive your car to pick up your child please park by the cricket nets at Metro Park and get your child to walk to you, this is a safer option. The school advised the caller to report the incident to the police and Auckland council, which they have. If you continue to park there please be aware of children walking in that area and keep your speed down.

Traffic Concerns

As you are aware there has been a lot of concerns regarding the Millwater Bankside signalised intersection, in particular red light running.

Auckland Transport Traffic Operation team have been out to check the intersection and observed a number of vehicles speeding and also a significant number running the red lights. These are not only trades people but also parents with children in their cars.

Please make sure that you stop on the yellow light at the traffic lights outside of school. Before and after school is a busy time with children and parents using the lights to cross the road, we do not want an accident to occur because you run the red light. Please reduce your speed and look out for children. A yellow signal means stop, unless you are so close to the intersection that you can’t stop safely. A yellow signal indicates that the lights will soon turn red. If you fail to do this then the penalties are $150 fine and 20 demerit points if you fail to slow down and stop when traffic lights turn yellow (unless you cannot stop safely).

I have also seen a number of parents walking their children across Millwater Parkway and Longmore Lane and not using the crossing please make sure you use the crossing. You are a role model to your children if they see you using the crossing then they will use it as well when you’re not with them.

ANZAC Day

Every ANZAC Day, Silverdale School marches in the parade at Hibiscus Coast Community RSA, 43A Vipond Road, Stanmore Bay. This year’s parade is on Sunday 25 April beginning at 11.00am. If you would like to join us please meet at Hibiscus Coast Community RSA at 10.30am. Children are welcome and should be wearing full school uniform. Year 5 and 6 T-Ball Zone Day

On Thursday 8 April we sent three teams to compete at the Hibiscus Coast School T-ball zone day. It was a brilliant day for all three teams and everything ran smoothly. All of the children really enjoyed the t-ball and were so committed and enthusiastic in all of their practises leading up to the tournament. Everyone played well and tried so hard in all of their games.

A huge congratulations to the 32 students, making up 3 teams, from Team Tui, who attended the HBC Primary Schools TBall tournament at Victor Eaves Park. All teams competed hard, showed great sportsmanship and achieved great results in their games. There were 16 teams from surrounding schools in the tournament and our teams competed in 5 games each. The Silverdale Sox went unbeaten through their pool games, winning all 3. Their only loss of the day was in the semi final, but they went on to win their final very convincingly 18-11 to take 3rd place at the tournament. They have also earned a spot in the North Harbour Primary School Championships which will be played later in the year in October at Rosedale Park. Players of the day from their team were Kaleb Taylor and Harry Boreham. The Silverdale Slammers had a brilliant day with some outstanding plays and very close finishes. They won their final in style to take out 7th place. Players of the day were Sonny Matafei and Chase Torbet. The Silverdale Stealers battled hard through their pool games, with 1 win and 2 losses, which were very close with just 1 run between teams in the result  They also finished the tournament strong with a big win 18-10, after a huge hit from Corey Allen who scored a grand slam bringing in 4 runs from his turn at bat. They finished in 13th place. Players of the day for the Stealers were Corey Alan and Charlie Smith. Thankyou very much to all the parents who assisted us on the day with transport and our team managers/scorers Rachael, Chris and Lindsay. Our children did Silverdale School proud today!

Thank  to Mrs Tracey Kaminski for all her time and effort in coaching all the teams.
