Introducing our new Cyber Safety Hub

We are delighted to introduce you to a new resource made available to you through our partnership with Family Zone – our new school Cyber Safety Hub.

The purpose of the Cyber Safety Hub is to provide you with practical guidance and information to further support you in engaging with your children in their digital development. These tools and resources also allow the school and parent body to work together on creating a holistic approach to guiding each student’s online journey.

You can access the Cyber Safety Hub using the link below:

https://silverdaleprimary.cybersafetyhub.nz/

or from our website

https://www.silverdaleprimary.school.nz/parent-cyber-safety-hub/

About the Parent Cyber Safety Hub

The Cyber Safety Hub provides expert advice from leading cyber experts, ySafe, on the most pertinent issues and frequently asked questions around platforms like TikTok, Fortnite, Instagram, and more. There are app reviews with age and safety recommendations, along with a range of guides to help ensure healthy boundaries around screen-time and gaming, plus step-by-step instructions for using parental controls and filtering out inappropriate content.

We are very excited to be able to offer you this level of expertise and support in an area that we know has been challenging for many parents to manage. We look forward to working closely with you as we develop the cyber safety conversation within our school community.

Car Parking

There is no parent parking on the school site, an option during drop off and pick up is to park away from the school and walk to school, a great way of building you and your child’s fitness and help reduce the carbon footprint at the same time.

The drop off zone that borders the sloping bank will be a ‘manned’ stop, drop and go area from 8.30am to 8.55am and again from 3.00pm to 3.15pm. In the morning our car park hosts will greet your vehicle and, if necessary, escort your youngsters to their classes. This means you will be able to stop, drop and go in a minimum of time. You do not need to get out of your car. In the afternoon your children will wait for you on the bank to be retrieved. The teacher on duty will pop your child in your vehicle and you can quickly depart. Again you do not need to get out of your car.

Our mobility car parks are in operation in both carparks, so please ensure that these are used only for the purpose they were designed.  Unless you have a mobility card and the card holder is in the car then the spaces must be kept clear.

Pick Up and Drop Off

With our increasing roll we are experiencing more and more cars coming into school to pick up and drop off children. Ideally we would like less cars coming into school. You can help with this by parking at Metro Park carpark by the cricket nets and walking into school for pick ups and drop offs. The first car park at Metro Park is 400m away which is about a 5 minutes walk, a great way to start the day.

If you are coming into school then please see below maps of the correct way to use the car park on school grounds.

In the Stop, Drop and Go area there is no parking between 8.00am and 9.00am, and 2.45pm and 3.15pm. If you park in the stop, drop and go this causes congestion for people trying to pick up their children early from kindy or school and for anyone else trying to get into school. Once the school buses arrive and our parents are waiting in the Stop, Drop and Go area for school to finish and this blocks any traffic from coming into school.

We ask that you not park in the Stop, Drop and Go area until after 2.45pm. This will help the flow of traffic arriving and leaving the school.

Thank you to everyone who is following the rules, it does make a difference.

A couple of reminders:

  1. Both car parks are for staff cars only, please do not park in any of the carparks.
  2. No parking in the stop, drop and go area until after 2.45pm.
  3. At stop, drop and go please do not get out of your car.

Dental Clinic Parking

A reminder to parents that you must not use the dental clinic car park to drop off or pick up children, thanks for your cooperation in this.

Scooters and Bikes

After the accident at Pigeon Mountain School yesterday please remind your children that if they ride their scooters or bikes to school, they must walk them on school grounds and they must wear a helmet. Please also talk with them about riding their scooter or bike safety on the footpath before and after school, we have had a number of complaints that children are weaving in and out of people walking on the footpath.

Silverdale Kindergarten Bikeathon and Gala – 27th March 2021- 10am-2pm!

Kaitiaki kindergarten is a kiwi not-for-profit organisation that strives to provide the best education for pre-school tamariki.

Therefore, FUNDRAISING is a big part of how we can finance the upgrading of our kindergarten outdoor environment.

Silverdale Kindergarten are hosting there annual fundraising event ‘Bikeathon and mini gala’ to raise money to upgrade the outdoor learning space! Our upgrade will hopefully include new soft fall, native plants, pathways to explore and an exciting extension to our carpentry area, and native fencing.

It’s a community event with food, raffles, amazing auctions, a chance to win $500, bouncy castle, games, plant stall, sensational seconds stall, helicopter simulator, cheerleading and a chance to encourage our young kindergarten children on their bikes. It will be held at the kindergarten on Silverdale School grounds.

The more we can raise at this event the less fundraising we will have to do for the rest of the year!
