Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to Kobe Ireland, Dominic McCleery, May Gardiner, Elliot Cameron, Ella Vokes, Aria Hoskins, Roy Kim, Alivia Longstaff, Madison Champion, Aisha Zaher, Luca Boshoff, Yolanda Zhang , Adam Rushworth.

Arriving at School

Children should not be dropped at school until 8.30am as there is no adult supervision until this time. Any child on school grounds before the 8.30am bell sounds should remain seated outside the hall and not around the classrooms or on the playground. At 8.30am the children are permitted to go into their classroom.

Parking

Please be aware that Auckland Transport will be patrolling Longmore Lane and ticketing drivers who park on the broken yellow line before and after school. Please don’t drop your children on at the bottom of Longmore Lane. The only place to drop your children off is the stop, drop and go area in school.

Parking

If you are parking on the grass opposite the school can you please role model to your children to use the traffic lights to cross Longmore Lane. I have seen some near misses by people trying to cross the road by the gate. Please walk to the lights and cross the road. This is the safest way to cross Longmore Lane. The traffic is increasing using Longmore Lane and I don’t want to see anyone get hurt trying to cross a busy road.

COVID-19 (novel coronavirus).

During the weekend there has been much media coverage on this topic.

You may be wondering what Silverdale School is doing to plan and prepare for an event like this.

The Ministries of Education and Health have been providing excellent communications to school principals on this issue for the last few weeks.

If you have checked our Pandemic Planning Policy on-line you will have seen that school specific content is no longer there. Instead we will follow the daily updates from the Ministry of Education and Health.

Here is the current advice to us all:

Everybody should follow the following basic principles to reduce the risk of getting an acute respiratory infection or passing it on to others:

– regularly washing hands (for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap and dry thoroughly).

– covering your mouth and nose when you sneeze.

– staying home if you are sick.

– avoiding close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.

– if you feel unwell you should avoid public gatherings and events.

Kids Corner

Room 28/30 are taking part in the NZ School Kit writing this term. This involves having a partner class in another part of New Zealand who they will be sharing their writing and poetry with. They have started this by looking at some of the ‘naughty’ things we have done as young children and modeling this around the poetry of Carlos William’s poem ‘This Is Just To Say’.

This Is Just To Say

William Carlos Williams – 1883-1963

I have eaten

the plums

that were in

the icebox

and which

you were probably

saving

for breakfast

Forgive me

they were delicious

so sweet

and so cold

THIS IS JUST TO SAY POETRY…

This Is Just To Say

I have cut the barbies hair

That was my sisters

And which she was probably wanting to play with

Forgive me it was very funny

So mean and so evil

This Is Just To Say

I have deliberately

tried unlocking the phone

that belonged to my Mum

that was on the couch

and you were going to tell me off.

Forgive me

it was so tempting

so dark and so evil.

Colour Rush is back – Sunday 29 March, 11am @ Silverdale School

On 29 March from 11am we will be hosting a fabulous, family friendly Colour Rush event.  The course is suitable for everyone, it’s not a race but an opportunity to run, walk or dance your way around the course, go through obstacles as you get showered in a rainbow of colour.  Do it as a family or sit back and watch the kids do it themselves.  It’s a great opportunity for you to get to know the school community a little better while having a huge amount of fun.  Pre-schoolers are welcome but anyone under 5 must be supervised along the course by an adult. There is no entry fee for preschooler’s providing they are accompanied by a paying adult.

Once you have finished the circuit join us on the field for some yummy food and a few runs along the waterslide!  There will also be a Colour disco at the end where you can dance away to DJ cards and get yourself even more colourful.

Make sure you wear old clothes.  We use a quality non-toxic powder made from cornflour which should wash out – but don’t take the risk!

And of course….we need helpers!

These events can’t take place without the help our school community.  If you are available on the day or have any questions about the event please contact the PTA silverdalepta@gmail.com

A huge thank you to David Kayes from the MTF Get Moving festival who will be helping us put on the event again this year.  Thanks to our awesome DJ – DJ Cards and of course our amazing sponsors Jake & Jen at Bayleys Millwater, Toyworld Albany, Plumbsure, Roberts Homes,  Goldstruct Homes and Stonewood Homes.
