The learning conversations are three-way conferences with the teacher, child and parent. Three-way conferences take the form of a conversation between the child, the parents and the teacher as they sit together and talk about the child’s learning, with the child taking an equal role. This approach give children an opportunity to share with their parents their growth as a learner.

- Represent the voice of our diverse community.
Who can stand for election? Anyone who is a parent or caregiver of a child at Silverdale School, or a member of our wider community, is eligible to stand for election. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds, with diverse skills and perspectives, to consider putting their name forward.

Sandy Evans Manaakitanga Memorial Award for Term 2
Sandy Evans, was teacher aid at Silverdale School for 16 years. She died suddenly in a tragic accident in January 2012. Sandy had an enormous empathy for all students and particularly those she worked with.
Silverdale School Board created a Manaakitanga Memorial for Sandy as they felt she embodied the principles of manaakitanga – extending the hand of friendship, finding positives in all activities, exemplifying tolerance, kindness and empathy to others.
This memorial will be awarded at the end of each term at the final assembly of the term to the student that staff feel is the most worthy recipient from the designated team.
Guidelines for awarding the Manaakitanga Memorial
- Consistent application of being kind to others.
- Going the extra mile without seeking recognition.
- Positive mind set to self and others.
- Ongoing evidence of respect, tolerance and empathy for others.
- Consistently showing our KERI Values of Kindness/Atawhai, Excellence/Hiranga, Respect/Whakaute, Integrity/Ngākau pono
The Manaakitanga Award in Term 2 was chosen from Team Pūkeko.
Manaakitanga is about care, respect, generosity, and uplifting others. This student lives out every day, not with noise or attention, but with quiet strength and a truly beautiful heart.
She is a proud Samoan who carries with her a deep sense of service, humility and alofa for others. She has shown incredible resilience/manawaroa when things are difficult, adapting with grace, maturity and a positive spirit. She is open to feedback and always seeking ways to grow, not for recognition, but because she genuinely wants to do the right thing.
The chosen recipient goes above and beyond the expectations of her age. She works with some of the trickiest kids in our class, with patience, compassion and calm, helping them feel seen and understood. She steps in to resolve conflict, searching not for blame but for a solution that works for everyone. She consistently puts others first, always looking out for those who might need support and always showing empathy/ngākau aroha and kindness/atawhai.
She has that rare ability to connect with anyone and work well in any group. Her attitude is positive, her work ethic is strong, and her heart is huge. She is a true example of manaakitanga, responsible, trustworthy, humble and incredibly kind.
Congratulations to Sophia Albert for receiving this award at our last assembly. Sophia, we are so proud of you. You are a stunning human being and a taonga in our kura.
Fa’amalo, malo le taumafai. Congratulations and well done.
