Interschool Cross Country 2025
Last week an amazing group of long distance runners competed in the 2025 Interschool Cross Country. The terrain was a mixture of hard and soft sand and some wet and dry mud and grass areas. As if that wasn’t enough to contend with, it was also a sunny, hot spring day! Our runners showed huge resilience and determination. A special mention needs to go to Kyra Geens, who came a very close 2nd in the year 6 girls section. Kyra and her toughest opponent both ran a strong race and it could have gone either way. The sportsmanship and respect for each other was heartwarming to witness. A special mention also goes to Zoe Dunn, who crossed the finish line impressively in 5th place in the year 5 girls section, and to our Year 5 girls team (Maddison Sims, Mia Malherbe and Hazel Bulkley) who took out third place with a massive team effort! Well done to all our competitors!

Travelwise Celebrations
Despite the weather this term, we still have had a huge amount of students walking, scooting and biking to school. A big congratulations to Room 25 – they had the highest number of students coming car free on Wednesdays over the term. We hope you enjoyed your milo morning treat!
Our Walking School Bus students have been dedicated to walking to school as often as they can. If you’d like to join one of our Walking School Buses, please contact Alex Franklin alexfranklin@silverdaleprimary.school.nz

Beyond the Screen
We are thrilled to celebrate the success of our students at the first-ever Beyond the Screen student conference at Nukumea School last ThursdayThis fantastic event brought together nine groups of students from across our Kāhui Ako ki Orewa to present on technology innovation.
We’re incredibly proud that two groups from Silverdale School were part of this groundbreaking day! They presented their impressive research on submersible technology (Alex W, Matthew, Haydn and Yihan) and bioprinting technology (Lorelei, Ella-May, Alex L and Ethan), showcasing their passion for how tech is changing our world.
The day was filled with presentations and ended with a fun “Tinker Time” session, allowing students to get hands-on with robotics, 3D printing, and VR.
A massive thank you to the students for their terrific mahi and to Anna Robson for working with the students on this project!
