Orewa College first te reo Māori immersion programme for Year 7 and 8 students.

We’re pleased to let you know that from 2026, Orewa College will be launching its first te reo Māori immersion programme for Year 7 and 8 students.

This initiative builds on the fantastic mahi already happening in our local schools to strengthen Māori provisions and revitalise te reo Māori in our community.

About the programme:

  • 80% of instruction will be delivered in te reo Māori, supporting language development, wellbeing, and leadership through a te ao Māori lens.
  • Students will also have access to English-medium teaching for literacy, numeracy, and specialist subjects such as the arts, science, technology, and PE.
  • Tamariki will remain fully involved in all aspects of kura life – sport, cultural events, leadership opportunities, and extracurricular activities.

Students do not need to be fluent in te reo Māori to apply. The programme is designed to meet learners where they are, with a focus on growth over time, strong whānau involvement, and the support of dedicated kaiako and senior leaders.

An information hui for interested whānau:

Silverdale Akonga Shine at Kids Sing 2025!

A huge congratulations to the 62 Silverdale akonga who participated in the annual KidsSing festival on Monday 4 August. This year’s event was a fantastic celebration of music, with 50 schools and over 4,500 students from across Auckland taking part. Our students truly shone, filling the beautiful Holy Trinity Cathedral with their voices. They performed three songs in the non-competitive category: “Pokarekare Ana,” “Thank You for the Music,” and “You Raise Me Up.”

A special thank you goes to David Husselmann, who accompanied the choir on the piano, and to our talented soloist who added a special touch to the performance. We are so proud of not only their beautiful singing but also their incredible behavior. Our students were wonderful KERI ambassadors, displaying impeccable manners throughout the entire festival. Their participation was a testament to their hard work and dedication. Well done.
