Mothers/Significant Adult Morning

Mother’s Morning/Significant Adult morning is on Monday 12 May from 9.00am to 10.20am. All mothers or significant adults are invited to their child’s classroom to spend the morning with them. 

 

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to Hudson Frost, Arlo Huia, Jemma Vannan, Kashton Ngwaba, Teigan Stretch, Nico West, Vinisha Jadam, Victor Kim, Chloe Malcolm, Charlie Porter, Natanahira Shelford, Dylan Grubbe, Diana Ramazan, Lazar Zikic, Anders Parker and Jack Huston Rumble.

 

Book Week

Book Week will be taking place this term from Friday 9 May to Thursday 15 May. The Scholastic Book Fair will be held in our school library. Please come in that week and look at the range of books and other items available for sale. Details of the times it will be open are below and will also be on notices around the school. 

On Thursday 15 May we will finish off Book Week with our traditional Book Character Parade in the hall. Students take part in a parade dressed up as a favourite book character. Please start getting your child to think about which character they would like to come dressed up as. All are welcome to attend the parades.

For the Year 0-2 classes the Book Character Parade will take place in the hall at 9.00am – 9.40 am.

For the Year 3-4 classes the Book Character Parade will take place in the hall at 9.40am – 10.20am. 

For the Year 5-6 classes the Book Character Parade will take place in the hall at 10.40am – 11.20am.

 

PTA News School Neon Disco Night 

Friday 13 June

Junior Disco (Years 0, 1, 2 and 3) – 5.00pm – 6:30pm

Senior Disco (Years 4, 5, and 6)- 7.00pm – 8:30pm

Tickets $10 and $5 prepaid money cards available to purchase on Kindo under PTA fundraiser. 

Prepaid money cards are very helpful for our younger students, multiple cards can be purchased. 

Cut off purchasing from Kindo on Sunday 8 June. 

Cash is also accepted at the disco, but no eftpos. 

Items available at the disco include; ice creams, lollies, pizza, drinks, ice blocks, glow toys, photobooth, face painting, and a nail bar.

Due to health and safety reasons, no non Silverdale school students are allowed, including siblings under 5 years old. 

Due to security reasons, after the disco, parents must collect their child from inside the school hall.

No refunds will be provided for unused prepaid cards and tickets for non attendance. 

We need parent helpers please. The disco relies on parent help on the stalls to make it fun for the children. You can help with one or both discos. Stalls include:

Face painting (Neon Dots and lines), Photo booth, Lollies, Ice creams, Kitchen (Pizza and drinks), Nail bar (simple), Glow toys

Pink Shirt Mufti Day – Friday 16 May

We are encouraging children to dress in pink to support Pink Shirt Day. We want our school to become a sea of pink. By taking part in Pink Shirt Day on Friday 16 May, we’re doing our part to eliminate bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusion.

Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!

Whole School Fun Run – Friday 16 May

Our school will have a Pink Shirt Mufti Day and Whole School Fun Run on Friday 16 May beginning at 10.40am. We will need volunteers to help supervise the children running the course. If you are able to help please email Cameron(cameronlockie@silverdaleprimary.school.nz).

Approx times for the fun run:

  • 10.40am Whole School to meet on the courts in class lines.
  • 10.45am Team Tūī Fun Run (1 lap compulsory / 2 laps optional) 
  • 10.55am Team Pūkeko Fun Run (1 lap compulsory / 2 laps optional) 
  • 11.00am Team Te Õhanga and Team Kiwi Fun Run (1 lap compulsory / 2 laps optional) 
  • Students should run in shoes.

Teacher Only Day

The school will be closed on Friday 30 May for an Kāhui Ako ki Orewa teacher only day with Orewa Primary School, Wainui School, Dairy Flat School and Orewa Beach School, Ahutoetoe School and Nukumea School.

 

New Education Parent Portal

On Sunday, Education Minister Erica Stanford announced the launch of a new education “Parent Portal”, aimed at keeping parents and whānau informed about their child’s education.  

The portal includes a breakdown of what children will learn in English and Maths at each year level, with the other learning areas to be added as the New Zealand curriculum refresh continues.  

Whānau can find activities and resources to support learning at home, and information and videos about how parents can expect their child to progress through school.
