Silverdale school is a Travelwise school which means that as a school we will aim to achieve a reduction in the number of vehicles in and around our school during school hours and will actively promote road safety with our school community.
Our lead teacher; Chris Williams has a team of year 5 and 6 students who work in the school to promote road safety often at monthly assemblies.

Competitions are often used to promote safe cycling as was done in term 1 or to encourage more parents and students to use sustainable transport ie walking, buses, bikes or scooters.
The stop drop and go zone has been successful in reducing the pressure at peak times in our school car park.
Our school was recently awarded a bronze award at the Travelwise evening hosted by Auckland Transport so this was a good indication that our school is working towards being sustainable.

Road Safety Week 2015
4th – 10th May

This year’s theme is Look Out For Kids, focusing on keeping some of our most vulnerable road users safe. This years themes are:
1. Slow Down
Encourage parents and the local community to slow down around schools and promote safety at the school gate.
2. Cross Safely
Ensure students stop, look and listen for traffic from all directions.
3. Buckle Up
All children up to the age of seven must be in an approved car seat or booster seat, by law.
4
.  Be Bright, Be Seen
It is important to be visible to other road users when walking, cycling, scooting or skateboarding.
5. Share the Road
All road users are to share the road safely and to act courteously towards other road users.
